Subject: R&D Source Category listing schedule

To the R&D Stakeholders:

R&D Source Category Listing Schedule

Provide list of Trade Associstions from internal ESD survey to EC/R -
April 24, 1998

Begin telephone contacts with any additional Trade Associations identified in ESD survey -
April 31, 1998

Receive readily available data from task force -
April 31, 1998

Mail out to Trade Associations (if required) -
May 12, 1998

To the R&D Stakeholders:

I wanted to clarify an item in the R&D Source Category listing I sent last week. In the schedule I mention contacting trade associations for information. Apparently the time frame I have for this task has caused concern (i.e. not enough time).

My intention is that the "information" from the trade associations will not be extensive. The main questions will be do you know if they do R&D in your industry, can you give a qualitative description of what they do, and who are the major companies in your industry. This might require some phone calls, but I don't plan to have the trade associations requesting detailed data from their members in this step. The desired outcome of this step will a general idea if there is R&D performed in this industry, a general idea of how it is done, and a list of industry contacts who can provide more specific information.

One difference between the step shown in this schedule and what we are already doing is that I hope to have involved more associations and potentially subgroups of larger associations, who have more specific industry segments they represent. The trade association list will come from the internal survey I have done of trade associations that have assisted in previous and current NESHAP projects.

The more detailed data that is will be requested in the June 30 mail out would be solicited from the companies themselves.

I hope this helps.
