Even when not required by environmental regulations, the following best practices are recommended.

Operation and Maintenance Options

• For steam traps and steam lines, develop and implement a routine inspection and maintenance program.
• To prevent system corrosion and optimize cycles of concentration, maintain proper water treatment
• Develop and implement routine inspection and maintenance program on condensate pumps.
• Regularly clean and inspect boiler water and fire tubes to reduce scale buildup.

Retrofit Options

• Install and maintain condensate return system which will lower energy and operating costs.
• Add an automatic chemical feed system controlled by makeup water flow.

Replacement Options

• Consider performing an energy audit. This audit will reduce heating load and make certain that the system is sized appropriately.
• Consider installing a smaller boiler, distributed system or heat capture system for use during the summer months.
