Even when not required by regulations, the following best practices are recommended.

• Perform routine maintenance on all monitoring and recording devices as specified by the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Calibrate all monitoring and recording devices as specified by the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Develop a filing system for print outs of monitoring data and store these files such that they are easily retrievable.
• Consider establishing a buffer between what air quality regulations allow for discharge criteria and when an alarm may sound signifying a discharge exceedance.
• Document calibration and maintenance activities in a logbook.
