   Toxic Use Reduction

Every organization wants to save money and protect workers and the environment. Toxic use reduction and waste minimization will help your university do just that.

Many states have issued guidelines and even regulations designed to reduce the use of toxic materials. Further, under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), any entity that generates hazardous waste must demonstrate that it has established a formal program to minimize hazardous waste generation. Every time someone signs a hazardous waste manifest, the person is certifying that his/her organization has a waste minimization program.

Stroll through this section of the EVC for important first steps for setting up a toxic use reduction and waste minimization program, and also to see how the regulations differ for Large and Small Quantity Generators.
